Glory unto Thee!

Last Friday, we, the volunteers and CHYK children agreed to speak on the glory of India on 20/02/2009. The task assigned to me was a poem on the subject. I became emotional while writing this...

Arising from the dungeons of desires
There was a yearning to experience
The breath of life in the cosmic drama
God said to me, “Go unto your mother now”

The newness of breeze, beasts, barns
Shores, valleys, mountains and plains
Arrested the senses of my young soul
God whispered to me, “Look at her generosity”

The land that my big feet touched upon
Thundered its long forgotten glorious past
Muting my soliloquies of insignificance
God reminded me, “Realise her greatness”

Amidst the dust of my everyday life
I stumbled upon the chapters of glory
Of pure intelligence and exquisite beauty
God taught me, “Make her feel proud of you”

Locking inside the dark room of my house
I cried and cried for I knew not
How to rise from my level of ignorance
God patted gently, “Be a good child always”

As my tears and sobs subsided slowly
I saw a beautiful woman of brilliance
Carrying love and abundance in her hands
God left me with a smile, “Thank her. She is your mother…”

O Mother India! I love you very much!

I wrote this on 18th February. I thank the kids for giving me an opportunity to make me delve on my motherland long and hard. Glad to add here that they liked my poem very much. :)

Truly brilliant and indeed patriotic. You are indeed lucky to have been alloted this topic by those young children. Wonderful poem! No wonder you became truly emotional.

The title was aptly assigned to you!! But I know you would composed a similarly brilliant piece on any topic given to you .. :)

Love,
Anitha

As usual the poem is good, Padmaja. But, I cannot think of limiting anything to the imaginary political lines dividing the earth.

Latha & Anitha - Thanks a lot.

Solai - Thank you. I agree with you. But you will also find that the poem is applicable for Mother Earth as a whole if you read again.

Yes, I too agree and even felt after reading 'if the wordings at the end were, "O Mother Earth", the poem would have been more vast, deep and awesome.

As far as the poem and its beauty, there is no question. But, I cannot say, glory to my Brahmin Community and say that glory applicable to entire human being.

We always talk about universality in the class. This was a special task to all glorifying our motherland.
